Weimaraner Colors: Which Colors Do They Get

Do you want to know about weimaraner colors? Or if you are considering getting a weimaraner, then this might be the perfect time to learn more about these affectionate and intelligent dogs.

Weimaraners might not make the best guard dog because of their friendly nature. However, they could qualify as your best friend! with their silvery-blue coats, they are the most beautiful dog breed you would ever see.

Weimaraners are athletic and need proper exercise, so taking them for a walk or run every day is recommended. They do not have many health problems but they can get hip dysplasia and bloat so proper nutrition and preventative care are needed.

Weimaraners were originally bred as hunting dogs and they could be trained easily. They are smart and very loyal so they might want to please you, which should make training them a breeze.

The name weimaraner means “hunter” in German and this breed was first developed in the 19th century. These dogs were used for hunting purposes and were first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1943.

I guess that’s pretty much for the introduction, now let’s head towards the different shades, our weim got.

Weimaraner Colors

Weimaraner Colors

Weimaraners come in several different colors, including blue, silver, and gray. Sometimes they could be mixed with brown fur if their genes are dominant which makes the dog to be called a chocolate weimaraner.

But other than that, you could see some Weims having black hairs too if they have recessive genes. This is called a black weimaraner. Generally, the dogs are either one of two colors: silver or dark. So which one do they get?

It basically depends on the color of their parents. For example, if the parents are both silver weimaraners then all their puppies would be silver too. However, it may also depend on where you got your dog from or who was meant to breed them in the first place.

If you are looking for a silver weimaraner, then the chances of getting one would be high. But if you are looking for a black or dark weimaraner, it might be harder to get because these puppies do not usually come from silver dogs.

One thing is sure though: your dog would be beautiful regardless of its color!

Now, let’s have a look at the colors of some famous weims:

Weimaraner Colors: Silver

Weimaraner Colors: Silver

The silver weimaraner is the most common color. This particular version is so popular because it looks more gorgeous than other colors. It has more silver hairs which are basically what makes this breed to be called a “silver” weimaraner. Other than that, you still have your darker coats but these dogs are mostly silver.

As the color suggests, you might find it hard to distinguish between the dark parts. But one thing is for sure when it comes to silver weimaraners: they are beautiful! So if you are looking for one, keep in mind the possibility of getting a silver dog.

Shades of Silver

Shades Of Silver

As I said, there are several different shades of silver and we’ll be heading towards that right now.

First of all, we have the dark silver weimaraner which has more black hairs than grey ones. It is basically a combination of both colors and it can appear in different ways: sometimes your dog could be completely black but other times it would be mostly silver.

Then we also have the light silver weimaraner which is pretty much how it sounds: a dog that is lighter than the dark silver and has more grey hairs than black ones. These dogs are often called “white-coated” weims because they actually look like pure white! Therefore, if you want a white-coated weim then this color could be right up your alley.

Finally, we also have what’s known as platinum weims which is basically when the dog has no black hair in its coat at all! This is similar to what you find in other breeds such as huskies and alaskan malamutes so if you do not mind having one of those colors too

Weimaraner Colors: Blue

Weimaraner Colors: Blue

The blue weimaraner is another popular color for this breed. This type of weim has dark steel-blue fur all over its body which makes it look even more gorgeous! The blue fur may vary in the shade though so it could be lighter or darker depending on that.

However, this breed also has blue-eyed Weims which is basically a dog with one true blue eye and the other being brown. It looks very weird but still, it could be cool! I heard that such weims are more aggressive and they don’t like to be petted or anything.

It’s definitely something that everyone should consider before they are getting weims.

Speaking of aggressive dogs, the blue weimaraner is one of them if not trained right. This breed may be friendly with people. But when it comes to strangers, this dog is more like an owner-oriented dog. Which means that he’ll only protect you and will not let anyone hurt you.

This breed is not like the other weimaraner who usually like to play with everyone and any time. Because this one needs lots of training and socializing. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to make him behave well or even obey your commands. However, he does really need lots of exercises!

Shades of Blue

Shades Of Blue

Finally, we also have the shades of blue in this color which is probably what you really want to know about.

First, we have the steel blue weimaraner which looks very royal and nice. It is one of the prettiest colors in my opinion. And it can help your dog look more imposing especially when he’s standing tall and proud.

Then we also have the royal blue weimaraner which is basically a lighter shade of this color. As you may know, light shades make dogs look more white or even dirty! But that does not apply to the royal blue because it still looks amazing and pretty on any dog.

And lastly, we also have the powder blue weimaraner which is basically like the steel blue but lighter. It’s not as light as the royal blue but it’s still lighter than the steel blue.

Weimaraner Colors: Black

Weimaraner Colors: Black

And finally, we also have the black weimaraners which is basically a dog that has all black fur and appears to be completely pure black. However, if you look closely, you’ll see that their coat color is actually dark grey. So they don’t really appear to be pure black. Unless you take away all the light surrounding them by taking pictures in complete darkness.

And then there are some black weimaraners that have brown or gray highlights which are actually very beautiful. So if you love the color of your dog to be really dark, then go for the all-black one but if not, then just settle with some lighter colors because they’re still beautiful!

Some Rare Colored Weimaraner

Now that we’re done with the most common colors, let’s talk about some rare ones that you might be interested to know!

First of all, we have what’s known as charcoal weimaraner which is basically a dog that has black and silver hairs mixed together. The only difference between this color and the dark silver one is that this one has more black hairs than grey ones.

And then we also have the rich chestnut weimaraner which is a dog that is mostly brown in color with lots of reddish undertones! It sounds like it could be similar to the red weimaraner but it’s not because when you look closely, you’ll see that their colors are quite different from each other. The rich chestnut actually looks like dark chocolate and it really does look gorgeous even in small dogs!

Therefore, if your heart beats for this specific shade, then give it a go and get one of these rare dogs at least once in your life. You won’t regret it because we’re talking about rare and beautiful dogs here!
